WFDownloader App Changelog (0.87 released!)

WFDownloader App 0.87 released! This release introduced a number of new features but the most notable one is the update of a batch since the last time it was run. See details of this release below.

Some of you might have already accessed some of these features in a previous patch (which was for testing and feedback) but this is the official release.

1. Batch Updater - If you've downloaded links from a site using the supported sites fetcher, the next time, you only need to click "Update" to get all the new media posted since the last time. This is useful if, for example, you are following an artist on Twitter who posts regularly and you want to get the latest update at a click.
   
2. The UI has been slightly redesigned to make it easier to use frequently needed actions (as you can see from above).
3. WFDownloader App is now able to save your site preferences in an intuitive way. For example, if you want a particular configuration to be the default (e.g. naming scheme), all you need to do is click "Remember choices for next time" and then you won't need to open the config window again for that.
   
4. Batch Link Search has been updated to provide some needed features such as "Site Config" (for sites that support it) and splitting to multiple jobs. Also, the warning about using this feature has been made more noticeable.
   
   *Splitting to multiple jobs (i.e. create a batch for each link search) option is useful if the operation is not a one-time operation and you would like to be updating each of those links for new content later. A valid example/use is for Twitter which was used in the image above.
5. A number of sites now allow fetching of non-media data such as texts, post info, etc., which can be exported into a json file. This is useful for archiving. You can later view it with any json viewer or create a customized json processor to display the data as you'd like. The sites that currently support this are Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. Note that you need to select the option via the "Config" to indicate your link search is for data export and not for media download (see image at no.3 above).
   
6. Changed the default maximum number of pages crawled from 1,000 to 10,000 since a number of people reported that WFDownloader App wasn't scraping all links for extremely large galleries. You can still increase the value further from the general settings if that is still not enough for you.
7. Drag and drop has been extended to allow the dropping of multiples links at once. It doesn't matter where you're dragging from (whether from your browser, another software e.g. MS Word, etc) and whatever the text format e.g. plain text, HTML, JSON, etc, WFDownloader App should be able to handle it and extract just the links. Just drag the link from wherever and drop it on the app's main screen. It allows you to even filter the links and lets you choose whether you want to perform a batch link download or a batch link search.
   
8. The link search has been improved to show intermediate results in a timely manner so it's now easy to stop the link search and get all the links gotten so far (unlike before where stopping it would mean zero links).
9. Fixed an issue where importing cookies wasn't working for some extensions because they used some non-standard methods. Now WFDownloader App should import cookies correctly from more cookie-exporter extensions.
10. Fixed a bug when setting the proxy to use in WFDownloader App.
11. You can now copy to your clipboard, selected links from the download links table in case you want to use them in other applications.
    
12. The failed downloads summary window has been updated to be more descriptive and now allows copying of the links in case you want to report.
    
13. Fixed a number of reported sites that stopped working and made a number of improvements for others. Only the major sites are covered below:
    • Twitter:
      • Fixed the site to now work with the Twitter restrictions introduced in mid-2023.
      • You can now export all tweets of an account into a json file.
      • Fixed the Twitter scraper so that you can download very large accounts with over 10k tweets but you need to select it from the option that you are doing a large account (necessary due to Twitter restrictions).
      • There are now more options for renaming the files downloaded.
      • You can download a specific date range by appending the date to the URL. See this post for details.
    • Instagram:
      • You can now export all posts of an Instagram user as a json file via the "Config" button.
      • Now supports downloading specific saved collections that you specify (which was recently introduced by Instagram).
      • Fixed downloading stories or highlights which stopped working.
      • Now added the ability to change the subfolder grouping from the config (because some users didn't like the default).
    • Pinterest:
      • You now can export all pins of a user or a board of your choice into a json file via the "Config" button.
      • Fixed an issue where the app fails to download from links that are in other languages due to wrong decoding.
      • Fixed downloading of Pinterest stories which stopped working.
    • YouTube:
      • Fixed the issue with downloading from @-specified account URLs.
    • Tiktok
      • Fixed download from actual video posts which stopped working. Single-click bulk downloads still not working but you can use the drag-and-drop method on no.7 above.
    • Tumblr:
      • Fixed the scraper to work with the changes introduced into the Tumblr internal API.
    • Reddit:
      • Adapted the search rate to comply with the new API rate-limit restrictions from Reddit and as a result, the searches are now slower. Note the 1,000 limit still applies.
    • Flickr:
      • Fixed an issue where it downloaded more than the actual number of posts for some albums.
      • Added support for downloading Flickr guest-pass albums.
    • DeviantArt:
      • The default mode broke due to the site moving to a newer API which has now been fixed. Still, the API method is the preferred approach these days.
    • ArtStation, Behance, VSCO
      • Fixed support for the above sites due to the site changes introduced by the websites.
14. Added support for the following sites (listing only the notable ones): Mastodon (and nearly a hundred known instances), 500px.com, svgrepo.com, toyhou.se, newgrounds.com, kavyar.com, fandom.com, miraheze.org.

[December 20, 2022] WFDownloader App 0.86 released

WFDownloader App 0.86 released! This update comes with the new batch link search feature! You can now queue multiple link searches instead of doing each link search one by one. Note that this is subject to the website's cooperation or it will fail if you get blocked. All features and improvements listed below:

1. Batch link search which now enables you to queue multiple link searches.
   
2. Tasks menu redesign. This now makes it easier to access various features of WFDownloader App and helps you understand at a glance what each feature does.
   
3. Link search filtering for supported sites. This now makes it easier to get a subset of files from some specific sites like archive.org.
   
4. Fixed/Improved major supported sites such as Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, DeviantArt, etc. to even allow more options via the "Config button".
5. Allows users enter their API keys for professional batch downloading especially for sites that are very restrictive. This feature can be accessed from the general settings. Currently, only DeviantArt is supported. More sites will be added as requested.
6. Advanced batch property edit. You can also select multiple download items at once and edit their properties together.
7. Made the inbuilt browser more readily accessible by adding it to the Tasks menu. Importing cookies is still preferred.
8. Improved some of the manual link search options notably the hyperlinks, images, and videos options.

[March 23, 2022] WFDownloader App 0.84 released

WFDownloader App 0.84 released! Finally, the programmable mode (probably the single most powerful feature of the application) is now available for everyone to use. With it, you won't have to request for any site to be supported by the app because you can now support the sites yourself or customize what sort of links are fetched. All features and improvements are listed below.

1. The programmable mode is now available.
   1. It allows you to program the app to fetch hyperlinks, images, videos, audio, documents or any kind of file from almost any site.
   2. It supports link filter, URL rewrites, infinite scroll, gallery download, multi-page crawls, captcha handling, custom naming, data scraping, and other features.
   3. You can attach the code to any website or URL pattern.
   4. Allows exporting code to share with friends.
2. It's now easy to download from Open Directories. It allows many customizations and saving of configurations for reuse.
3. Improved the generic image search which can be used to download images from unsupported sites. It now includes a "Smart image search" option which when selected will fetch only relevant images and exclude unwanted stuff like tiny thumbnails. It does this by best effort and because the feature is still immature, the algorithm can fail sometimes. There is now also an option to automatically grab embedded images from known image hosts like imgur, imagebam, etc.
   
4. Improved the generic video downloader, which is now able to detect videos it failed to detect in the past.
5. Added support for many new sites with focus on anime image/wallpaper sites. The notable ones include: behance.net, imdb.com, listal.com, knowyourmeme.com, wikimedia.org, zerochan.net, 2chan.net, 4chan.org, anime-pictures.net, e-shuushuu.net, and others I might have forgotten.
6. Fixed some sites that stopped working or had issues because they were changed/updated. This includes: twitter.com, deviantart.com, alphacoders.com, pexels.com, pinterest.com.
7. Improved both the forum and crawler options of the manual link search. They now allow attaching any saved configuration to a website or URL pattern. Once done, the sites now behave as a supported site. You can now click the "Add" button and search right away for such links and it will automatically reuse your configuration! You no longer have to open the forum or crawler window to load your saved configuration.
   
8. You can now export saved configurations for link search for the forum, crawler, open directory and programmable modes. This is so that you can share your custom link search algorithms/configurations with your friends that are not as tech savvy. All they'll have to do is drag and drop your exported file onto the main WFDownloader window and they'll be able to download from the new sites thanks to you!
9. The export links feature now allows exporting as json in addition to text and html options.
10. Fixed an issue where WFDownloader App failed to start on some Macs.

This release focused on making WFDownloader App extensible. Anyone can now support the sites they like and even share with the community.

[June 29, 2021] WFDownloader App 0.82 released

WFDownloader App 0.82 released! This release was mostly about adding support for social networking sites and a few improvements.

1. Added some social networking sites. Details about what you can download:
   1. Twitter: single post images and videos, user profile, user media, user likes, user followers, user following.
   2. Instagram: single posts, user profile, reels, channel, highlights, stories, saved posts, tagged posts.
   3. Pinterest: added support for Pinterest stories and board sections (this one requires login).
   4. Vk.com: single posts (images and videos), albums, user profiles.
   5. Deviantart: now supports videos, scrap pages, and resuming large galleries if stopped due to rate-limiting by using #number at the end e.g. https://deviantart.com/artist/gallery/all#456 to continue from that number next time.
   6. ArtStation: now provides a Config button to select whether you want to download images only, videos only, or all files.
2. Notable new sites added include: cnn.com, bbc.com, archive.org, stocksnap.io, 35photo.pro. All supported sites in faq.
3. Image detection algorithm improved for manual search. This also affects forum and crawler search.
4. Improved link search for Bing images, fixed a few broken sites like alphacoders, deviantart, etc.
5. Fixed a bug that made WFDownloader App fail to refresh and resume expired POST requested links.
6. Fixed file save issue caused by saving links with trailing dots on Windows OS (due to its clever Win32 API).
7. Added option to bulk-add URL patterns for power users.

[January 31, 2021] WFDownloader App 0.81 released

WFDownloader App 0.81 released! It's mostly about bug fixes, site fixes and addition of new sites.

1. Fixed and improved some of the major image sites like pinterest, deviantart, artstation, pexels, etc. WFDownloader App now supports Pinterest's board sections, created, saved and private pins that require login via cookie import. Deviantart now provides option to download original image quality where allowed by an artist. Previous Pexels and ArtStation looping have been fixed.
2. Improvement of image grabbing from search engines particularly Google  (which is much faster now).
3. Added more sites such as pngmart, lovethispic, freepngimg, allmacwallpaper, etc.
4. Added video detection for more video hosting sites. Also fixed resume support of expired video links for some sites like mp4upload.
5. Improvement to inbuilt crawler to reduce redundant crawling by detecting identical pages. Also improved its image detection algorithm.
6. Improvement on forum media downloader to enable it run in the background.

Thanks to many of you who reported issues in the sites they use and suggested improvements. A few issues couldn't make this update, but hopefully they'll be fixed in the next one.

[August 10, 2020] WFDownloader App 0.80 released

WFDownloader App 0.80 released! It contains improvements, bug fixes and new features. Change log:

1. Added download support for search engines and other sites such as bing.com, google.com, yandex.com, weheartit.com, tiktok.com and others which you can find in the supported sites faq.
2. Fixed and added improvements for a number of reported sites notably deviantart.com.
3. Fixed a save bug when downloading batches containing over several thousands of files.
4. Improved support for downloading extremely large batches of about 100,000 files or more.
5. Added new feature to enable you import cookies from browser to enable WFDownloader App use same session.
   
6. Added new feature forum thread media downloader under manual link fetcher. This will make it easy to download images, videos, documents and so on from forum threads.
   

Note that the reported captcha issue was only partially dealt with and will likely fail in the near future. You can follow wfdownloader twitter to get timely updates about this.

WFDownloader App 0.79 released! This was a necessary bug-fix release due to an outdated cloudflare plugin that made link searching from some cloudflare protected sites difficult. Change log:

[April 13, 2020] WFDownloader App 0.78 released

WFDownloader App 0.78 released! The focus of this update was on fixing many sites that were reported not working. Also, major parts of the link fetch engine were rewritten to enable it more easily support new websites. Because of the rewrite (even after considerable testing), it is possible for some bugs or strange behaviours to occur during link search for edge cases. If you discover any, please report using the contact form below. Also a number of new sites were added. Now for the change log:

1. Fixed many sites that were reported to have stopped working.
2. Added support for new sites including alphacoders.com, wallhaven.cc, getwallpapers.com, wallpapersite.com, and many others found in the FAQ.
3. Fixed Cloudflare error which occurred due to Cloudflare using hCaptcha as new captcha provider.
4. Rewrote major parts of the link fetch/search engine for WFDownloader App. This is the first step to enable it support a wider range of websites more easily in the future.

[February 14, 2020] WFDownloader App 0.77 released

WFDownloader App 0.77 released! This is largely a bug-fix update. This is because some sites stopped working and needed a critical update. This version also includes a number of improvements. The change log:

1. Added support for new sites including tumblr.com, reddit.com, artstation.com and others which you can view in the supported sites faq.
2. Fixed cloudflare support for a few sites that required it, also fixed support for a number of reported sites.
3. Improved the manual search algorithm to be able to better fetch links and images.
4. Manual search now allows you to generate custom names for the search results. Useful for sites that have many files with random names.
5. Provided a (temporary) user login solution via built-in  browser for users that requested it due to not being able to use WFDownloader App's crawler on password protected sites. This feature will be improved on a future update.
6. You can now filter crawl results by file size.

[December 21, 2019] WFDownloader App 0.76 released

This is a bug fix update released in response to some complaints related to a cloudflare error message given by WFDownloader App. You can view the full story on twitter. As a result, this update is not a feature release, just bug fixes. These are detailed below:

1. Fixed the cloudflare error that affected a number of sites (depending on your country or ISP).
2. Fixed some reported sites that stopped working and added a few new sites.
3. Added some new configurable properties in General settings.
4. Made the link search progress more responsive (noticeable when searching sites like pinterest and deviantart).
5. The Add button now has a dropdown arrow that gives users other options. This is because a lot of users didn't know WFDownloader App could do other things.
6. Introduced a Crawler mode under manual link search. This can be used to fetch links from non-supported sites. You can save a crawler setting so that you can reuse it later. You can read this tutorial on how to use the crawler.
   

The next update is probably going to be a feature update (if some major bug like the last doesn't happen :)).
